£ FOR £ Grants to Jersey Charities Working Overseas

The Commission has set aside £100,000 of its budget in 2012 on the basis of matching specific fund raising on a £ for £ basis subject to a maximum of £5,000 per project to recognised Jersey Charities working overseas, that is other than branches of UK charities.

The Commission has also agreed that it will give consideration to larger grants to Jersey Charities working overseas which are able to demonstrate existing long term relationships with communities requesting assistance, providing that the need and sustainability is clearly demonstrated together with the ability to carry out the project successfully. The Commission will only grant funding providing the Charity demonstrates that it is personally involved in undertaking work in the area seeking funding. A local Charity can not act as only a funding channel.

The Commission will give preference to projects located in Africa, Latin America or South East Asis which is withinthe bottom 50 countries on the HDI (Human Development Index - 2011 rankings) hdr.undp.org/en/statistics/

Grants will be on the basis that Jersey Charities shall be able to apply for more than one grant per year, however funding will only be considered for different projects affecting different communities. The funding request must alos fit within current criteria.

A Jersey Charity can not apply for emergency and disaster relief funding as the Commission will only consider requests from its established UK based agencies which have a proven track record of dispersing emergency funding and an established network on the ground.

To be eligible the applicant must demonstrate that their body is properly structured and funding and expenditure safeguarded.

JOAC encourages Jersey Charities seeking larger grants to approach one of the Commission’s established aid agencies to form a partnership with them, requesting they include the project within their annual applications to the Commission. The principal agency would then be responsible to the Jersey Overseas Aid Commission for the monitoring of the project and controlling its funding. Once funding is secured through this means the Jersey Charity will not be eligible during the same funding period to further apply to the Commission for £ for £ grant that same year.

Application forms and details to be supplied can be obtained by writing in the first instance to the Executive Officer.
