Mongolia 2010

Mongolia 2010

June 2010

Fraternite de Notre Dame has been established in Mongolia since 2002, when it opened an orphanage for 26 abandoned babies in its own fenced compound. Believing all children have a right to an education the Fraternite decided to set up its own school which is also attended by local street children.

The children have moved through the grading system over the years so there is now a need to provide a larger building and it is this that the 2010 team will be helping with. Alongside the new school the Fraternite also hope to provide a soup kitchen and a medical consultation area to cater for the needs of street children, all the facilities will be within the compound.

There will is only 4 month period when building is possible due to extreme weather patterns in the region around Ulaan Baatar therefore the project will start in late April and finish in late August. The JOAC 2010 team will be helping local builders in June/July. By the time of the team’s arrival the foundations will have been laid so the team will, most likely, be helping with the walls that are made of heavy concrete blocks. It is therefore important that applicants are physically fit and able to take part in heavy building work.
