The Commission will review its policies and procedures on an annual basis to ensure that its funds are used in the most effective and economical way.
JOAC’s strategy is driven by a clear mission -
It is committed to joining with others in reducing poverty in poorer countries by making a sustained contribution.
In particular it will continue to contribute to: -
- basic health care;
- medical care;
- effective education;
- safe drinking water and food security;
- projects to assist self sufficiency;
- emergency and humanitarian needs;
- working towards the elimination of child labour and abuse;
- encouraging development with environmental awareness.
The Commission will pursue this by: -
- working closely with the private and voluntary sectors;
- ensuring the consistency of policies affecting poorer countries;
- encouraging and supporting recognised local bodies engaged in overseas aid;
- using resources efficiently and effectively.
The Commission will continue to pursue its aims in a variety of ways, principally by providing funding in the following areas: -
- grant aid of large and medium sized relief projects implemented through internationally recognised relief agencies and other recognised specialist aid agencies
- emergency and disaster relief
- community work projects, where teams of Jersey volunteers undertake specific aid projects
- encouraging Jersey Charities in their work to alleviate poverty in overseas countries either on a £ for £ basis, or by financial contribution to the cost of materials for projects where they are physically working overseas.
